The small pacú (Myleus pacu) also called pacú, pacupeba, eatau, is a freshwater fish of the family of characins, native to the fresh waters of South America, mainly the Amazon rivers. They live in the middle reaches of large rivers and migrate to streams and gravel bottoms to spawn. The populations form schools of fish and their bites are very painful. It is an omnivorous fish that also feeds on fruits, plants, algae and seeds.
